I am not a country fan, I like jazz, the old stuff from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and constantly look for really well recorded “music”…
One person I have been listening to this week in my random rotation is LeAnn Rimes and her Sittin On Top Of The World CD. The whole cd is well recorded, her younger voice can break glass a great holographic presentation IMO…great demo stuff…just listened to Love Will Conquer All…not my real cup of tea but I cant get over her range and how well it is captured in this recording…
Another laid back new age disc I like for tonality is Billy Joe Walker Jr, and his Treehouse CD
Anything from Agnes Obel. This chick can freakin sing, and play piano. Agnes’s albums, also have some of the best recording quality I have ever heard. Agnes sounds killer out of any ZMF headphone, and especially my Aeolus.
I’ve been listening a lot to Wintersun’s “Time 1.5” this week. Musically this is probably my favorite metal album, the entire album is just so well composed. My only complaint is that it is only 4 songs (at least it is 4 long songs!). “Sons of winter and stars” also serves as a fantastic test track for headphones and loudspeakers alike.
I also pulled out Röyksopp’s “Melody AM” which has been among my go-to albums for the car but it really deserves to be listened to on a real system once in a while. “Röyksopp’s night out” is a personal favorite.
Finally I will mention the original soundtrack from the show “Yuru Camp”. It is absolutely stellar and far beyond what I would expect from any soundtrack, be it for a movie, show, or video game. You might have to relegate yourself to Youtube, however, seeing as this soundtrack is quite hard to come across.
Symphonic metal is hit or miss with me, but that Wintersun album is good! It’s a nice change from the Nightwish / Soilwork / Within Temptation stuff I listen to a lot.
In searching for the Klemperer EMI Classics Beethoven 3rd (noted by FLTWS), I’ve run across the Japanese conductor Takashi Asahina - some really great recordings on Tidal, and enjoyed his Eroica. Not just well recorded with great sound, but great performance, sense of space and audience and background details. Also got into his and Gunter Wand’s Bruckner’s 8th Symphony. Would be interesting to get the take of those here that are more into classical than me on those albums.
This made me fire up the iPad > iFi xDSD > Schiit Lyr3 > Sennheiser HD-6xx chain. I strongly suspect that HD-6xx is one of the most appreciated headphones, certainly for the price in Senn’s line.
