This made me laugh out loud!
Gosh, it all started back in the day with Senn HD414’s and Koss Pro4a’s!!
Since then I have delved in to the 2 ch stereo world, vinyl and thru the advent of tubes, solid state and now digital stuff…
HD414’s were revolutionary at the time…never forgot that open airy feeling…
A set of Beyer DT’s in the early 2000’s started me back in cans…but it wasnt until the Audeze LCD2’s first came out that the desire to really look into this part of the audio hobby took place…a first gen Schitt Asgard and the LCD2’s started me on this road…
The LCD2’s blew me away at how well they could re-produce low end signals or rather music, pipe organ stuff…and of course bass altogether…
And now 20 pairs of cans and 16 amps, several dacs and many DIY projects later we still are having fun!

Same here I must admit it may have had something to do with a great Single Power amp, which ultimately turned out start fires. Mine never did. It became known to the Audio Community that they were fire hazards. Add to Mikhail the owner and developer of the amps disappeared from the scene and many people lost $$$ to build orders and some units in repair to never be returned as I recalled
As I have stated the Lcd 2s paired beautifully with this amp
Where did you first hear the LCD-2s?
When they first were announced I was one of the early adapters…having planar type speakers ie Maggie’s I was curious how this “new” planar tech was working with small transducers…so I ordered and waited a few weeks and started listening…
So I bought them for $1K sight unseen or unheard…quite a risk but it worked out…but after several months I sold them!
Same for me, it was definitely the 6XX headphones that got me hooked on headphones! Everything else I had owned up until that point were really bad and I didn’t even realize how bad, lol.
6xx was my first “audiophile” headphone… I think I went a little hard after that… I blame @Torq for both, being a good for my audio chain and bad for my wallet influence! Lol as it was through his generosity (in allowing me the opportunity to hear some headphones and gear that was/is unobtanium) and guidance that I find myself with my current setup, and my limited knowledge in this world of audio!
Also, @andrew and @taronlissimore for creating the opportunity to be a part of this great community of people, and you know selling me a lot of my current gear , wait a minute…lol seriously though you guys are awesome! Great customer support, service, and for how you handle this forum…a Haven for us, who have found their way here!
Egad! I never knew you were so fast ramping up on quality and purchases. My first real headphones were HD-600s, purchased long before the 6xx was a twinkle in the eye. My activity plateaued in 2019, to include selling more than buying and mainly using my 2018 buys.
These days my attention span is pretty short, with hobby time split between multiple topics.
My real problem…I’m a hobby collector…my brain is constantly trying to learn as fast as possible new things…ADHD can be a MF lol…my more costly problem is the desire for the “best” thing, and a knowledge that life is short…go live it and have fun doing it!..caveats in place such as don’t go into debt doing anything…and save/invest for the future as much as possible…and most importantly have a significant other that is awesome!
My first pair of headphones over $100 were actually, Beats by DRE earbuds back in 2010. Probably explains why I never got into headphones until later on. Guess I lucked out! Haha.
I can relate, and agree!!!
I remember back when I first heard an LCD2 in 2014, I had my HE 4 then and… just my Audio GD NFB10ES2 Dac/Amp unit with USB input!!!
I also remember being so envious of the Mid Range detail they had, despite the odd tonality
The Orpheus HE-1, listening to Buckley’s “Hallelujah”.
Literally got choked up.
Welcome @tjg! It’s amazing how music moves us.
Hello and welcome @tjg.
Welcome @tjg
Welcome @tjg. Maybe we can get @andrew and @taronlissimore to add a pair to our community review program; I’ve been wanting to audition those headphones.
The Oppo PM-2 these were my first ‘real’ pair of headphones, previous to that point I had a pair of Bose QC-15, then moved up to a ‘better’ pair of NAD HP50’s. More recently I had the “HC” moment when I got my Focal Elex and the most recent “HC” moment was with the pair of Meze Empyrean’s, I reviewed a few weeks ago.
The first pair which made me say holy crap was the he1000v2. I had grado, senns and AKG before but not holy crap moment with those brands. Now I’ve sold the hekv2 and moved on to Abyss Audeze meze and ZMF which are holy crap moments.
