Looking forwards to some over-ear time…
(Not everything is an IEM @pennstac )
Welcome to the Chord family, @monochromios! Fun club to be in
Thanks mate.
Mojo has been my first ever DAC/amp many years ago.
I’ve had the chance to compare the Qutest with two others DAC in the last weeks and it brought me back to Chord.
Mojo was my intro to this world, too! Still have it and love that little sucker
nice! I like halby cables too and nice to support local seattlelites too!
I had the Qutest into a Kenzie Encore, through a Preamp, and it caused a ground loop. I think because the Qutest isn’t grounded and the Ampsandsound are a bit iffy there sometimes, just happened. Ended up just grounding the Qutest, BNC to RCA adapter then a iFi Groundhog type thing.
Sad to read this.
None of the problems you mentioned are occuring to me, luckily.
Some budget stuff for a change, well in-between to be precise: the CCA CRA.
Make some space for the bass!
All the rage on Head-Fi. The new, default recommendation in the sub $50 segment.
Just unpacked this baby for a bedroom setup, as I’ve started to really enjoy unwinding at the end of the day with music instead of the TV.
I had started off with a nice portable DAC, but between the USB-to-Apple camera kit dongle-to-ipad setup, not to mention the power kit for the DAC (and the power kit’s adapter to connect to the DAP), it was a massive tangle that took all the fun out of it. Thank goodness for generous return policies.
My DAP wasn’t a solution as it really doesn’t have the muscle to drive my non-commute headphones. Then I remembered about this beauty. I already have another Naim HE in the living room and it presented itself as a perfect solution.
I had to convince myself this was a problem worth solving at this price point, but I seem to have won myself over…
I ordered one of those Chinese I2S extractors:
It takes the I2S from the HDMI output of a transport like the Oppo 103. Works with Oppo, Sony, and Pioneer players (but maybe not all models?).
Confirmed to be working for Oppo 103 → Holo May. Sends the SACD bitstream over I2s to the May. May reports it as DSD64X. Also works for Denafrips.
I ordered from here. For $63.57 shipped. Took 11 days to arrive in California.
I’ll post a review / howto thread if there’s interest.
Wondering if there is way to capture those streams to a file. Asking for a friend…
How about this?
At least for Oppo it is possible to send the DSD data over the network. You let it boot from a USB drive and you issue commands over the network from a PC. It’s explained in the topic linked above.
Wow, I had completely forgotten your earlier post! The only reason that I even know that is because I liked your post back then!
I’m getting old, but before I die, I’m going to get me an Oppo 103 or 105 and a Windows computer, and try your well-written instructions out.
You had 130 SACDs? Has it grown, or did you sell them off after ripping them? Most Classical or Jazz I assume? That’s an epic collection.
Thanks for the work you did and for sharing that.
I’m sure there are people here with 10x as many. I still have all of them. It’s a almost equal parts classical and rock / electronica, with some jazz mixed in. Click to zoom in:
Some favorites: Violator, Best of Roxy Music, Avalon, Boys and Girls, Minimum Maximum, daft, A Secret Wish, and anything from Channel Classics.
Edit: Clarification: not all of those are SACDs and those are not all my SACDs.
Wow, I didn’t know there were so many quality titles on SACD. Yup, an epic collection all right.
