I just got the MMCX one set up with adapters and it’s definitely the way to go for me, specifically with my Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusk.
The extra height that the adapters give make it much easier for the wires to clear the tops of my ears and the articulation makes it so I can angle the mic part in such a way that it doesn’t press into my temple and push the iem out.
After playing some Apex Legends yesterday, I realized the mic is supposed to go on the right side of your head instead of the left, so the mic part itself was made correctly. And I’m a big ol’ dumb person.
The MMCX version also seems to have a much better fit and finish. The source side connector that you can use to switch between the single ended and balanced connections feels much tighter.
I’ve found that neither version works super well with the Thieaudio Monarch MKII. The MMCX version with adapters rests slightly too high and the native 2 pin version just a bit to low and close. It would be fine if that was my only IEM, but it just works so much better with the B2D.
Final thoughts for now are that it’s a good cable even without the mic functionality and considering the price of a balanced IEM cable, especially with interchangeable source connectors, plus a mic solution, I’d say it’s definitely worth a shot.
Honestly to me these amps sound completely different from one another. Hard to really compare.
I told @Earmuffs that the DNA is a ballet and the Woo is a mosh pit.
You know what man. These D-8000’s have been burning a hole in my head for 2 years now. If you are cursed with this I’d just let the wallet cry. I can’t tell you the relief I feel. Lol
Thank you @pennstac for turning me on to these. They are incredibly well made and the fit is soooo precise. Just wow!! Silvian was awesome to deal with and his work is top notch.
I’ll share some pics of them installed on the Grado thread. As far as sound goes….? No idea …will have to wait till next week. Have to pack for my Off to CamJam tomorrow !!
Tell me about it. Lol. I had to sell a huge chunk of records in the last two weeks to fit the bill. I was planning to only buy an atrium but when I saw that Caldera camphor burl I blind bought it in a matter of seconds even with them being demoed in front of me. I just didn’t want someone else to buy it as I was demoing and I have unconditional faith that Zach’s house sound aligns with me perfectly.
That’s awesome you were able to get it! I didn’t think you’d be able to buy, just demo…
I’d be very interested in your impressions, also what your audio chain is. Do you have any other planars for comparison? I’m also a ZMF fan(boy), with Atrium and VO in the house.
My planar go to is Rosson RAD-0, and I’ll be very curious how Caldera stacks up sonically to that and Dan’s (the) Expanse. Love my RAD-0, great headphone!
