What's in the box!

Thank you sir! I’ve come a long way since I started this hobby, learned a lot along the way mostly on this forum and HF. I’ve decided early on that midfi side-grades were not worth for me in my journey chasing great sound reproduction (to my ears), I decided to go to TOTL so that I can consolidate and be done for extended periods of time because I think that’s the ““cheaper”” approach in the long run and it allows one to not be “shaken” by the next “best thing”.

Ma Man! Smart!

This is the same approach @nugget has taken. I want to go this route but the truth is that, is not a level I am ready for. I first need to quench my thirst for gear before I jump TOTL and make stupid decisions.

I am putting together a meet with @nugget. We are still working the details (is far away from being “something” still) I am hoping that the Audiophile community comes together here in Houston and sets an awesome presence.

Is time for us to get on the map. Houston’s First Headphone AMPLIFI Show and Meet! (I just came up with that LOL, Who knows what is going to be called)

I have the exact same thinking with gear. Go as good as you can within your financial constraints then leave it alone and be happy. It really does save you money over time, I know it has for me.

Of course the caveat being you have to be accepting that what you buy is really what you want!

This. Key. On-point.

Couldn’t agree more. Though I’ve been saving for a good deal longer than I’ve wanted, I’m close to purchasing the dac I’ve been wanting for a long while now.

Better to wait and save for what you really want, than keep making incremental upgrades.

Enjoy the new tubes, they look fantastic!

Is it a dCS Bartok?

I agree, patience is a virtue and most of times the wait is worth it and usually very rewarding.

Thank you Christopher. They sound better than they look. I’m here debating if I need to sleep tonight, probably not!

In my dreams, my friend. Though it’s funny that you mentioned it, I was reading up on it this morning!

It’s no where near that range, but I think I’ll be happy. I’ll post when it arrives in about a month or so.

Maybe in a few years down the road. I was in a very similar position a few years ago, I could only dream about the Chord Dave/HMS combo but I’ve been lucky and blessed enough to score some good deals at less than 50% of MSRP on the Dave and around 40% off on the HMS. The Bartok is hard to come by in the wild though, the owners seem to love them. Maybe a few years down the road they can become more available after the release of an updated version - though I doubt it will be anytime soon, this is just my wishful thinking.

I drooled over the Bartok but the asking price is way too much of a burden for my wallet for what I perceive as an incremental upgrade from what I’m getting from the Dave/HMS combo so unless there’s a crazy good deal that is hard to pass up, I won’t be getting one anytime soon.

Didn’t you get Hugo tt2?

It was a loaner for review.

It would’ve been nice to keep.

no time to edit them this time… already started listening…

Edit: even my ifi xDSD with 3.5mm TRRS balanced adapter to the 4PIN XLR cheapo cable brings me joy with the HEDD

my balanced Forza Audioworks cable is on the way…

this sounds fantastic:

With other songs which include fast/deep low end, the ifi xDSD is a bit weak overall. No surprise.

But hey! - the intro(first minute) in “Stargasm” by Mastodon works brilliantly

They loke dope!
But I like the standard cable, it looks nice and way above other cables also for high-end HP’s. But you still want a Forza? (They are really nice)

Hey Jacob,

as HEDD has only single ended in the box, I wanted in addition a balanced and ordered the Amazon cheapo one you see on the first pic via Prime, to have a balanced here for the meantime and ordered via Forza AW a copper balanced cable, which will arrive in a few days.

now that you mentioned it - absolutly! this was a nice surprise today. Like the icing on the cake
to be honest - don´t wanted to hype my new toy over the top, though the provided single ended cable is the best I have seen so far. Looks better compared to nice looking Focal cables and is less stiff.
it really feels premium. I am going to use it later this evening out of my RME ADI 2 DAC fs

I hope HEDD is going to add a balanced cable in the similar design to their linup and I would be willing to spend a good amount for it.
