Haha, gotcha. I’m actually a pretty light sweater, hence my feeling I could get away with something.
OK, take three steps back from the hobby…
@elliot @PastorOfMuppets Remind me to swap out all pads/straps if I ever buy a used headphone from you guys!
Maybe just a good Bluetooth speaker that doesn’t suck at low to moderate volumes?
Certainly lose a little adrenaline-inducing impact with speakers, though this is an absolutely reasonable solution and worth exploring. Thank you!
For those who stay in the ZMF world or like that world, what are you pairing these days? For example, Verite Open and Aeolus or Verite Open and Verite Closed?..
VC and Atticus, and love them both and use them equally.
20 characters of Ditto.
The Verite Closed and Auteur are what i’ve been finding myself picking up the most lately.
Verite Closed and Aeolus for me. 80/20. Aeolus is my guilty pleasure for vocals and acoustics. Good relaxing medicinal listening, in contrast to the VC which I find to be more stimulating and demanding my full engagement.
Atticus and Auteur, splitting time about 50/50. Had Eikon, VC, and Aeolus as well but the Atticus/Auteur combo is what I found myself reaching for and thinking about most often.
You’re a terrible, terrible influence - I only just received my Blackwood Vérité, my first ZMF…
VC and Auteur, Aeolus doesn’t get much use.
Usually it’s silkwood VO + blackwood Aeolus. Then a couple months ago I got a gently used Final D8000, and I’ve been busy with that in various ways ever since. So for a couple months it was VO + D8K.
I happen to be burning in a new amp, the Monoprice Liquid Gold X, and am using a spare DAC + the Aeolus + ZMF silver cable for this. Just peeked in/listened to make sure foobar is acting properly. Heard a choral section from the Bach Magnificat and thought to myself, “DAMN this Aelous sounds good!” (just is through a cheap d/s DAC, not my usual NOS or multibit DACs).
So pretty soon it’ll be back to VO + Aeolus. These headphones have sound that is really exalted IMO.
So, I have a VO and Atticus. I posted to let go of the Atticus, maybe I’ll give it a little more time. I liked the VO a little more and felt they were close in a weird way to the Auteur, the Auteur being more neutral and the VO being faster, little more dynamic, larger sound stage than the Eikon of course and the Auteur. Bass is good on the VO but not as good as the Eikon but I let the Eikon go. I’ve thought about adding the VC, letting the Atticus go and just having the VO and VC. Yes, thought about the Aeolus but I’m starting to respect the fast, dynamic, high detail. Blaming it on the May, Aries and the Decware gives me the warmth. Plus I like a deeper pad and I’ve forgotten who (among the zmf pads) is the deepest but suede always seems more shallow and my ears sitting on the drivers bug’s me, so I always end up doing some form of universe lambskin with the Eikon. I ordered new pads for the VC, universe lamb perf as I think the old need to be refreshed. My point is that the pads I choose always adds warmth also. I’ve been using Corpse cables 10’ xlr and I’ve been on Corpse for quite some time. My music has yet to change. It can be anywhere from ELO, Black Sabbath, Echo and the Bunnymen, Dropkick Murphys, Depeche Mode, Nathaniel Rateliff, Sisters of Mercy and up to Gojira. So, folk, rock, metal, electronic, little all over.

VC and Aeolus, and wondering what role Aeolus now has for me.
Not listening to the Aeolus as much?
No, I’m not. I listen to the VC or my Utopias for all-purpose listening and my HD800s for classical. Not sure where the Aeolus fits in - what slot does it fill in that lineup?
I love them - just finding it hard to understand when the Aeolus gives me something different!
Until last week I only had the Ash VC. Then I made an impulse purchase and was suddenly the owner of an Ash Auteur. Only had the pair of them for a few days before I sold my Ash VC to make way for either a Blackwood VC or something rare that catches my eye during ZMF November.
