ZMF Vérité - Open-Back Dynamic Headphone - Official Thread

Hi, new member here. I have been reading all the great posts on the Verite Open, and the impulsive part of my brain is ready to say f¥(£ it and order them sight unseen and unheard. That’s the effect of your contagious enthusiasm.
I know that I’ll have to tweak my dac and probably my headphone amp setup, and that can be for another day. Or year…
What are your thoughts on my impulsive idea?
Thanks in advance.

Verité can be driven well from different amps, even DAPs, but to get the most of it you’ll need top-notch DAC and amp. Just to say that getting the Verité is going to push you down an upgrade slippery slope. In my experience, to get the most from these headphones (or Verité closed) you need to spend more than their price on DAC+amp. My current Verité rigs:

Yggdrasil A2>EC Aficionado+(RCA 5V4GA;Ericsson 396A;2x Psvane ACME 2A3)>V open
Soekris dac1541>Neurochrome HP-1 (soon to be ecp DSHA-3F)>V closed

I feel like the verite sounds best with a high OI amp and/or tubes, but also sound good out of a solid state amp

Welcome to the forum!

I agree with @earnmyturns. If you already have some kind of dedicated DAC-AMP setup, you’re ready to go. I recommend going for AMP after then DAC. This probably the safest route because you can re-evaluate which component to pick next every time you add/change a component in the chain depending on what kind of sound you want to go for.

As a new owner of this set, I gotta say I’m extremely pleased with the whole experience.

Thank you for the warm welcome, I currently am using a older headphone amp, Musical Fidelity X-can v3, it’s a tube hybrid and outputs 1 watt/channel. DAC chain is a Chord Mojo or a Musical Fidelity V-DAC II.
I have been eyeing the Chord Hugo 2, but from reading the posts on the Verite it seems the ideal experience is through tubes.

Thank you for your insight!
Your set up was hard to decipher, I am assuming your DAC is From Schitt, would you mind helping me decode the other items in your set up chain?

I’m not familiar with Musical Fidelity X-can v3 but as a fellow hydrid amp user, you may like how it sound with Verite pairing. As for the ideal pairing, it’s really subjective. Some users like the sound with solid state pairing too. My preference is with the tube amp. It’s LYR 3 and I’m having the time of my life tube rolling on this thing. :joy:

Yes, Schiit Yggdrasil, latest board revisions. Amp is the Eddie Current Aficionado. No longer made, I was very lucky to get it in the used market last year. For the other system, Soekris dac1541 is a very nice R2R DAC made in Denmark with a built-in solid-state amp. However, I use an external small-run, no longer made solid-state amp with it, the Neurochrome HP-1. I have an ecp DSHA-3F on its way intended to replace the HP-1. These are my (expensive) choices, by no means needed to enjoy the Verité. I liked the Verité with the Lyr 3 with good tubes such as the Psvane “treasure globe” 6SN7-SE, for example, and from what I read, the Bifrost 2/Lyr 3 combo is great value. I suspect other combos in that price range and even lower may be good starting points.

Yes, I can testify for Bifrost 2 - LYR 3 combo. Even with the default JJ 6SN7 tube, it sounds pretty good. Psvane CV181-T Mk.2 has slightly better imaging and adds good resolution. I’m still burning it in but 25 hrs in, I’m already loving the sound.

Hello All, I was wondering if anyone had experience pairing the Verite with Chord Hugo 2?
I travel for work quite a bit, and need to consider a “on the road” option when I purchase these headphones. Any additional ideas or suggestions would be welcomed too. Thanks.
