So I see you like to game… Oh wait there were guitars in these pictures
Yes and yes lol two of my favorite ways to pass time!
Woah. The top on that McCarty is insane.
Thank you, she is a beauty.
I envy you. I wish I could play the guitar myself. It’s my favourite instrument sound wise. Lovely collection too.
You should pick it up if you have the time. The hardest part is getting the dexterity down. Once you train your hands to move along the fretboard which at first is foreign and your fingers build calluses and strength it becomes much easier, it’s a steep learning curve at the beginning that deters many from continuing to try.
One piece of advise if I could give it, would be learn to play music you enjoy, many books/instructors push to learn in a traditional sense or the music they learned to begin with. But like anything if you dont enjoy yourself it’s difficult to continue applying yourself.
I’m not a guitar player, I prefer fatter strings, although I do have one for when I need it (although I keep it strung BEADGC, so I refer to it as my “Ultra Short Scale 6 String Piccolo Bass” ).
I like to do lots of looping and solo stuff and wasn’t really in to effects, so for many years my rig was: BASS>Interface>Laptop>Interface>DSP>PA Amps>PA sub and Cabs
However, when I moved in to an apartment, headphones became a major part, so I started using them. I think the ones (headphones) that I used the most were the M40X, although I am using the DT1990’s more now. My software of choice is Ableton Live but that is because I mainly do looping for which Ableton works great, I built my own control pedal to control the loops and effects etc. I used to prefer Cubase for recording but I have just been recording at in Ableton for the past few years (at home). I have also had good results with the Behringer UHD-204HD, which made me get rid of the Focusrite I had (I didn’t need it and was offered more than I paid for the Behringer) which was also pretty good for the price.
About a year ago, I decided I wanted to move away from the PC and depending on it, so I put together a few modular pedalboards that I can put together or store easily. These are actually all pretty inexpensive effects that I have decided on after trial and error. The choice gives me plenty of options and the preamps, although they don’t contain tubes, can replicate the tube sound pretty well in a band or recording context-
These are the modular boards, although there have been a couple of changes since I took these photos (please excuse crappy cell phone pics):
And this is how I store them when not in use:
And, just for fun, here’s a family photo although it is missing a couple of the latest additions:
Unfortunately I have arthritis in my hands so I feel it would be a difficult challenge. My ship may have sailed with regards playin the guitar. But thanks anyway.
I’m sorry to hear that. Listening to talented guitarists is a close second though! Seeing you like acoustic guitar have you listened to An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House by Joe Bonamassa? It’s an incredible album and Athens to Athens is a fantastic song!
That’s a great collection you have there, I’ve never been much into playing the bass. I do however have major respect for a few bassists. Tom Scholz and Peter Palladino, are two that I can listen to all day long!
What kind of music do you tend to play?
Thank you. I shall look into this.
Thanks, although there is nothing really special in there, mostly budget stuff tweaked to my taste.
As far as music, I spent a little over a decade doing hip-hop and reggae mostly but I play anything that inspires me (doesn’t mean I play it well )
1994 Levinson Blade R-6WN. It took me 5 years to find this, and a lot of nonsense with customs to get it out of Japan. Pickups are passive, but it has a built-in amplifier that will do mid or treble/bass boost at the flip of a switch.
Now if only I could find an audio interface that was also a reasonably competent DAC.
That looks beautiful, the pickguard especially.
Stunning indeed!!!
I’ve been playing off and on for maybe a decade now, 2020 will be the start of an just an on Decade
Made two purchases, an Acoustic Bass Ibanez Fretless and just bought a Yamaha Classical Flemenco Styling, I enjoy the lower action low tension strings and wider fret board!
“… I, too, play the guitar… Sometimes I play the fool” - John Lennon
I have been playing guitar for 8 years. Gibson’s made some questionable decisions, and have had QC issues, but I still love their instruments. For electric guitars I play a Gibson Les Paul and ES-335 for the most part, previously I played a “Blackie” Eric Clapton Stratocaster for many years almost exclusively. For acoustics I play a beautiful Taylor 314CE.
Moving yet again to the guitar thread…
I haven’t used it recently but should try it with my Nighthawk Carbons. They have no treble to speak of.
Yes, try yourself. I have a very light set of strings (on bright side), pickup set to bridge and presence at 10. No treble piercing. I was shocked. “This sounds really good”. I thought.
My sin was using cheap’o V-shaped IEMS and an old Bose QC-15 for a very long time (before joining this journey).
Found a good pairing now. Extra plus for the open back cans.
I have an SG and a fake strat. Both are mainly used as test equipment, as I design amps and pedals too (not just hi-fi). I wish I could play a bit. Just a few chords…
That’s a nice little amp you have. Any plans for SEND/RETURN jacks?
