I just said not even three days ago that I need to not get into vinyl.
It was not even three days later when I realized we still had my dad’s Pioneer PL-600 and VSX-D1S

I found them quite fun to read, as a lot has happend in the audio world since then. So great choice.
I have a great main audio chain that I use everyday, but all elements are from different companies. I would like a decent (not low budget, but not top $) system with min. power supply, dac and HP amp from same company, so they are made for each-other. And ofc a used system like yours.
The right system/buy has now shown itself yet, but I think the hunt is also part of the hobby, so I learn as I search. But I agree there are not many obvious options. Dac/amp is possible, but a power supply and other similar elements are harder to find, at least for a price below what a decent used car costs
I will look more into Musical Fidelity and their gear.
Thanks!
Nice. What is that FiiO next to the Pioneer?
That’s the FiiO A3
It’s surprisingly good for the price.
Wrong thread. Delete!
Very cool man! Those are some nice amps!
I’ve liked a lot of the Musical Fidelity products for 2 channel audio. Good solid quality for the price. Occasionally some of their limited production or specialty items show up on the used audio sites.
I use their base phono pre-amp all the time. Maybe someday I’ll decide it’s worth upgrading, but it does a thoroughly competent job taking input from the Ortofon 2M Bronze and feeding it to the main amp.
How is the Holo > Phonitor XE? I am considering almost that exact setup.
The view of my new system, when first entering my listening room. As you can see, my VC are ready to rock.
Sonnet Hermes > Sonnet Morpheus > Rogue RH-5
I really like it. The May is warm-ish, laid back, and resolving. The XE is fast, clean, and resolving as well. I use them with the VC’s and HEDDphones with good results. This setup is always engaging and I feel has good synergy. It’s been very fun to listen to, both in an analytical sense and in an enjoyment sense. I don’t think you could go wrong with this setup.
Stack …Cambridge magicdac 200, drop balanced dac, Singer Sa1, Flux labs Fa-10pro, Drop 789 Thx, plus a audio quest red dragonfly in the top corner just for iems on the fly

I’m new here and mostly enjoy “listening” on speakers at the moment because my headphones leave a lot to be desired, but am looking forward to reading the forums and leveling up my headphone game. Thanks in advance for the new addiction.
For the last several years, my headphone setup has been primarily for mixing and has looked something like:
Mac (usb) → Mackie ProFX Mixer (dac/amp) → Beyerdynamic DT 770
The 2-channel system has a couple headphone jacks as well, although I rarely plug in over there.
Roon → Raspberry Pi 4 (usb) → Chord Qutest (dac) → McIntosh C32 (preamp) → McIntosh MC240 (amp)
Cracking setup and living space @huntca.
Nice setup huntca. Next thing you know you will have added a McIntosh MHA200 to that setup.
Lose that Mackie mixer. That’s strictly a low-end opamp mixer that is nowhere near on par with the rest of your system.
Oh don’t worry - I’ve already emailed every dealer within a few hundred miles.
Yes! That’s the fuel I need, thanks and I totally agree. Hugo 2 is in the mail along with a couple sets of headphones to try.
Nice setup @huntca. I look forward to reading about your experience with the Hugo 2 and new headphones.
Out of interest, when listening for pleasure (e.g. with your 2 channel gear), do you prefer a different sound signature vs when you’re mixing? I’m assuming you value clarity and neutrality in the latter?
