I briefly played with EQ. I took 6 or 8 db away from 100hz down and they were better for me.
If that quantity of bass is considered normal then it puts into question any reason for me to upgrade from K702.

I’m also bass sensitive. I find myself having to turn down the bass of the Porta Pro. It might be more accurate to say that the Porta Pros have elevated mid bass (which can get muddy), but not necessarily the strongest sub bass or deepest bass extension.
For reference, for regular listening I prefer the Eikon with Auteur pads compared to the stock Eikon pads, partly to temper the sub bass.
It might depend on what sonics you’re looking for when upgrading from the K702. I understand the Porta Pros to have more of a mid bass bump and more severe roll off.
Yes. I back-to-back tested the Porta Pro against a bunch of higher-end stuff including the HD-600. The Porta Pro has little treble extension and boosted mid-bass. They are thick in the middle and have no meaningful ends. In contrast, the HD-600 is lean in the middle. It goes both higher and lower than the Porta Pro, but doesn’t emphasize the bass.
A lot of this has to do with the quality of the lows, mids, and highs. Your opinion may change (or not) with experience.
I much prefer your phrasing.
Agreed on considering the quality of the bass beyond the quantity/intensity - speed, tightness, detail, extension, visceral experience, etc.
Ah, thank you. If I understand correctly it’s more a matter of the overall balance than pointing to one specific frequency.
I sent my sister a sent of Porta Pros as an early Hanukkah gift. Along with some blue YAXI pads, as she likes black and blue from her ante-Goth days. I guess it’s ante-Goth, but rave pits were new. I did this because when I put her on the headphone witness stand, she admitted that she was still using the headphones that came with her tape-based “walkman” (probably generic) on ZOOM calls and for listening to music - often using her rowing machine.
Well, she just opened them up and sent me clapping and heart emojis. I called her, she had the YAXIs on, had figured out the comfort settings, and said, “Thank you, I never realized that all of these songs had bass in them.”
I guess it’s another deed well done, and the world has hatched a new Porta Pro / YAXI fan.
One of the pressing questions of our time! Which does everyone like most?

Always the exemplary evangelical of the church of Koss.
Amen, brother. Another pair of ears saved.
20 bucks!
How would she react to the NightHawk, Focal Utopia, or even Beats?!?!
Probably think they were all too big and too heavy. She’s heard plenty of live music. Is not an audiophile. Her S.O. has an OK speaker system.
@pennstac is a shinning Apostle for the Church of Koss!
Not going to lie between Porta Pro and 95X mine is a Koss Evangelical home as well xD
That‘s exactly how i take it tonally.
I might prefer the KSC75 sound, but currently use the Porta Pro more because it has a microphone. Wireless models were not considered.
I try to use the KSC75 as “wirelessly” as possible
Honestly, i use the Porta Pro‘s the same way, and the Earstudio or the BTR5 have micros build in .
Nice mobile chain you have there.
Y’all were not messing around. The detail for $20. Lordy. And with truebass on they are so much fun.
Uhhh, Porta Pros & Truebass, You “bass junkie” You
Hardcore
Enjoy listening
Yes, you must obey your Porta Pro pastor.
Come crawling faster (Faster)
Obey your pastor (Pastor)
Your life burns faster (Faster)
Obey your Pastor, pastor
Pastor of muppets, I’m pushing your wires
And so said Koss, and so said they all.
Does anyone know of a cover for the Porta Pro headband? My son kept getting his hair snagged in the headband, so he put them on hiatus.
