Hello and Welcome @Klucohor1980.
Hello and welcome @Tommy_Wong.
Hello,
After months of being long time lurker, I decided to join community.
Been on this hobby for more than 10 years, I got to know this forum from The Headphone Show youtube channel (one of the best review channel on YT for sure).
Hope I can contribute something in the near future!
Welcome @SHA_1989 what are your favorite pair of headphones you are jamming to right now!?
Hi everyone! I used to work in live sound, but got out of the industry over a decade ago. My headphone setup is currently a Violectric v850 DAC → v280 headphone amp → Audeze LCD-4’s. Currently the LCD-4 are being repaired so I’ve been using my Shure SE846 as a backup. Found this forum from some of Andrew’s Audeze reviews, which I have to say were by far the best reviews I’ve heard so far. Can’t wait to get my phones back so I can play around with some of his EQ’ing suggestions.
Hey, welcome to the gang!!!
Another Violectric V280 owner here. Would be interested to hear what you think of your LCD-4 with it as that’s a headphone I have not heard but am tempted to try and pick one up.
What happened to your LCD-4s? The LCD-5 is my first (and only) flagship, so I’m curious about Audeze’s customer support. Thanks and welcome to the community! Happy listening
So, the last set of phones I had before the LCD-4 were the LCD-XC. I got a really killer deal on the LCD-4’s (they were factory 2nd’s because of a small imperfection in the wood grain that you’d never even notice if I didn’t point it out). Right out of the box it seemed like the LCD-XC had way more bass, to the point of being almost comical, but also super awesome, but the LCD-4’s CLEARLY had a wider soundstage, better resolution, more space around every instrument, clarity, etc. I actually hesitated on whether I was going to keep the XC or the 4, but decided the adult decision was to go with the more sophisticated and accurate 4 and sell off the “Rock and Roll” XC’s. I use the 4’s for movies, gaming, and obviously music all on my PC. With a bass heavy song like Kendrick Lamar’s “Loyalty” the cans will actually shake your head with a powerful enough amp cranked up. The potential is absolutely there. Video games and movies sound staggeringly accurate. The one thing that bothered me was a hole in the lower aspect of the high-end range that would cause certain things like the synth that comes in at the end of Lizzo’s “Tempo” to sound kind of buried in the mix and not really satisfying. If I cranked up the amp enough I could hear the synth better, but then everything else was so loud. So, finally I stumbled across Andrew’s review of the LCD-4 on YouTube and he was the first person I can ever recall who talked about the necessity of EQ’ing the LCD-4’s to balance out that hole around 4-6k. This blew my mind. I don’t know why it never occurred to me that I might need to EQ a $4000 (MSRP) set of headphones. I just assumed they were made the way they were made and maybe there was a weak link somewhere else in my setup or my ear was used to something that wasn’t technically accurate or SOMETHING. I also figured trying to use a digital EQ on headphones would caused distortion and wouldn’t be worth it. I come from a background in Live sound where EQ’ing is mandatory so the sound system doesn’t sound like hot garbage in whatever nightmare of a box venue you’re working in this particular evening. Anyways, I can’t wait to try messing with the graph and finding that new level of perfection with the LCD-4’s. Now that I know that I’d say the headphones are about as perfect as you could possibly dream.
A quick note about the v280, when I plug my SE846 into it, even using the balanced port with a balanced cable, there’s an audible 60hz ground loop hum. It’s SUPER quiet, but definitely there. This is one of my motivations for wanting to upgrade to the v590, which is supposed to be 8db quieter. I’ve never heard this hum on the LCD-4’s, even with them cranked all the way up. I can, however, hear the barely audible 60hz hum on the guitar cabinet at the beginning of Bohemian Rhapsody. That’s how I know just how incredible the sensitivity and resolution is on the 4’s.
I… don’t know. I was using them very casually while playing a game. Put them carefully on my headphones stand. Put them back on a couple hours later and the right channel was totally dead. I swapped out the mini-XLR cables on each side and the left channel remained active while the right channel remained dead. It almost seemed to me like a loose connection between the drivers and the mini XLR connector. Anyways, I sent them in towards the end of last week and I’ve only heard they’ve been received so far, no further news yet. I’m assuming it’ll be a warranty repair.
Hello and welcome @Zubcut.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Well i’m a Focal Stellia owner, looking for a decent AMP, which was my main reason to join up. So as a result I am considering buying the Naim Uniti Atom, which sounds superb with these. My only concern is that it may be too powerful, the volume goes really loud, and I don’t want to have hearing problems from overuse …
I’m also curious about the Empire Odin IEM, i’ve never tried it out but it does receive raving reviews online.
Hello and Welcomr @JohanE and @TunaFishTiger.
Thanks for the welcome!
I’ve been lurking for a good while but have now taken the plunge! So far this community feels quite nice and welcoming.
