Once you try them, I used to get coffee from them, nothing wrong with the majority of Kona growers but changed ( after a trip this year) to Hawaiian Queens Coffee.
Anyway, enjoy, nothing like the taste of a few days old fresh roasted Kona. And when you grind your own, heaven.,
You can experiment with different concentrations to make either ready to drink cold brew or concentrate.
I use a 1 gallon sized diy coffee sock filter with a 1 gallon mason jar with dispenser for even larger batches. Make sure to use a coarse grind (I.e. french press).
Traveling all around Malaysia the past ten days. I’ve been drinking Malaysian White Coffee about once every other day with breakfast. It is an instant 3 in 1 mixture that tastes thick, sweet, and strong. Not as good as Vietnamese coffee but certainly a good substitute costing less than eighty cents American-$ at the Malaysian hawkers.
It’s Prime Day of course, so I thought I’d mention a couple of great coffee gear deals.
Technivorm Moccamasters are all on sale, I got this one but take your pick:
The Solis Barista Perfetta is $249 right now, which is a fantastic price. It’s the least expensive espresso machine that does a proper job with excellent flavor and crema:
I’m sure there are other good deals but these are worth noting if you’re in the market…
Some goodies arrived from Japan. Just tried the coffee and very nice it is too. I’ve wanted one of these wooden drippers for ages but the natural look has been out of stock so when I got notification of them coming back in I jumped on it.
I would imagine a wooden dripper is going to retain some of the oils from the coffee. Are you meant to wash it thoroughly or just give it a quick rinse to “season” it, like a wok?
I think it’s a quick rinse. All the instructions are in Japanese but the site I bought it from says a gentle wash. There is supposed to be a sort of lacquer on it. I’ve sort of gone for the “season” type rinse at the moment.
I quite coffee completely the last 3 weeks and only drink water now. Was rough the first week waking up in the morning and headaches but feel much better now. I’ve also great reduced carbs and sugars so much improved all around.
I used to think caffeine bothered me, and then bought some plain caffeine pills as a test (e.g., similar to NoDoz). I learned that it’s not the caffeine that bothers me, but the tannins in coffee, tea, and chocolate. They wreak havoc on some bodies. Caffeine wears off in 4-6 hours for me, while tannins last 24-48 hours.
Many people live in a carb overdose state and don’t seem to recognize that half of the carbs they eat are carbs. I’m with you there too.
So true. Especially older folks. Mom always thinks that you need a “starch” with a meal. That and some “roughage” which apparently means fiber, but her idea of what is high fiber is rather . . . Uninformed.
I’ve been hyper-aware for years on the carb score. I’m glad I’m fine with coffee, but too much can get a bit acid.
