I’m thinking of getting into headphones as hobby, and wondered if anyone knows where I can get a ridiculously cheap deal from someone who wants to give away their $$$$ headphones to me. Maybe $100 for a ZMF? I can afford $500 for a RAAL too.

I’m still hanging on, but it’s less frequent. Noticed something odd with badges. When I logged in today I was awarded my First Reaction badge 3 days ago for the first time I reacted to a post. Did the odometer roll over?

It seems the forum has fallen below the critical mass level.
Fewer people, less combined experience of members, less people with knowledge of specific gear - so less reason for people to visit.
It’s sad but here we are.
I think it might require a lot of thought and planning to restore this space to a headphone enthusiast destination.

You said it bro. Nobody is talking about fun stuff anymore. Coffee, keyboards, cars, vacations. Audio stuff to take to the mountains, posh hotel, or beach. The off topics are empty. A couple of people post a song or two.
Newbies come in, hardly any greetings. They want EQ for wireless Walmart purchases. Or they bought $$$$ stuff and don’t know shit. And one musician who is smart, asked her questions and got the hell out.
Do you hear this owners and mods? Owners, you built a community, then sat by and let it be rezoned and condemned. Mods, you drove away most of the people that mattered.
Are any of you old enough to understand how frustrating this is? Welcome to your newly refurbished reflecting pool.

This is a bit dramatic, but I do hear what you’re saying. I think this actually goes back to our earlier conversation about this, the influx of new people has gone to Discord, not the forum. You and I are perhaps more comfortable with forums and prefer this format, but we may be the exception. The thing is, I would personally rather a forum be a place for high signal to noise ratio, and while there are bound to be disagreements and differing worldviews, I don’t think you can maintain high signal to noise when it becomes difficult to distinguish the two, and over the years I feel we’ve seen that occur.
The other thing to consider is of course positioning. Other audio forums have their flags planted firmly in a particular camp - ASR is for target cultists, head-fi is for high enders and cable believers. We’ve never really done any of that. The preferred positioning has always been “open to all”. But, when the largest influx of participants all have the same worldview, it plants a flag all on its own. What reason do high signal contributors have to participate in conversations where they’re going to be constantly shut down or attacked by people?
We probably need to consider what it looks like to rebuild this space, but doing so the right way and with certain guardrails.
Speaking of off topic, anyone here watching the “Futbol”? Some great storylines already have developed. One of more interesting stories are how impressed the Europeans are with America. Many of them have stated that America is not at all like they were led to believe from their (alleged) news sources.
Some good games as well. I was never a big fan of Soccer, but this has been kind of fun so far. I no longer live in SE MA, but I reckon the locals are going ape over Brasil and Portagal so far.

Maybe you should - or the Lissimores - should ask Ian for his advice. Maybe an invitation with a pledge to some of the people who built this place with their presence and who have moved on.
I have lots of experience building online communities, but not resurrecting them after mistakes - or sales.
These days, I’m happily visiting and contributing to a non-audio forum that has much of the sense of community we once enjoyed. It has no Discord, has several larger and more commercial competitors/counterparts, and is growing after a pre-covid near death when servers/support changed. It was also held together by annual physical gatherings which lost their venue 3 or so years ago
I wish I had been aware of them earlier. I’d certainly have made an effort to attend

Like you I’ve mostly moved on to other forums, this one is now fairly hostile to folks who don’t subscribe to the EQ or bust/all amps and DACs sound the same schools of thought. (or perhaps that differences in amps/DACs are not of significance to them past a pretty low baseline).
I think your recent postings here are obviously a “cri de coeur”, as a lot of the people who made this an interesting forum have gotten out of the hobby, gone to other forums, or been driven out of this one whether through self selection or otherwise. Or they simply have better things to do. I don’t see Torq (Ian), M0N, Prof Falken, or any of the other interesting and authoritative peeps coming back ever.
If something interesting here unfolds let me know, but I would again invite you to join several of the threads on head-fi, like any of the ZMF ones for example. You’ll find some familiar people there, and those threads are mostly fun, civil, and informative. So are a few of the Schiit ones.

One can never really say that they’ve reached their end game in this hobby, but I’ve reached my good enough. I may someday replace my Lyr3 with LSSST or a PSVANE tube. I might upgrade something else, but it’s more likely my speakers next. At work, the ZMF and Eufonika OTL are plenty good enough. At home I have the Nectar Hive and the Rosson Rad O, for lower power the Grado RS1e with Beautiful Audio Pads. I’ve got LCDi4 for in-ear and Airpods Pro. And a Senn Momentum 4. So absent going apeshit eStat, I’m not likely to be real interesting.
What I can do in my occasional visits is help greet and answer newbie questions. Damn, I hope Valentine Luke is still alive and healthy somewhere.
The main fora don’t appeal, I’ll duck into them once in a while to check something. Amirlandia at least. I think I have a head-fi username. But I’ve already built a couple years credibility on USN (www.usnv2.net) a blade forum, it’s got real community, even some audio guys. And I just spent 10 minutes looking at the Chaves drops from Blade Show Atlanta.
I think Ian still peeks in occasionally. but we’ve lost Prof Falkin, TylersEclectic, Generic, Antdroid, Rhodey, and so many others. I guess to paraphrase Radiohead. Discord killed the Discourse stars. And that’s being kind to the other issues.
