Not to be a jerk, but it’s STEM, with E being engineering.

My daughter is really into anything STEM, hence the clarification.

No offense intended.

Different context, different use:

What @generic said. I come from publishing. The general usages are STM for Scientific, Technical and Medical, or sometimes S&P for Scholarly and Professional. Publications in Education are generally not included. The STM/S&P world includes many association publishers in addition to commercial and university presses. I’d been a member of the global scholarly publishing organization for many years,
https://www.sspnet.org
and have spoken or been a panel member at some of their events. I hope this clarifies the context for you.
Some of my clients included The American Society of Microbiology, The National Cancer Society, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Wiley, Harcourt-Brace, Reed Elsevier, and about 50 others. I managed digital publications and web stuff back in the dawn of time.

Good clarification. I guess the world goes beyond high school!

Best.

Depends on if you or your daughter are in high school or not. STEM is critical in secondary education. Without it, they would never graduate to publish in peer reviewed STM journals.

The state of education in the United States is a mess. Way too much time is spent focusing on non educational subjects.
