Happy B-day A!
Eat a French fry for me.

cake day. not bday. Bday isn’t for another month. I’ll still eat a french fry.

I’m not going after you, just making a linguistic observation because I used to pay attention to this stuff.

Did the English language lose the word ingenious in 20 years? I clearly remember the first use of “genius” as written above in Apple’s advertising for its “Genius Bar.”

We’ve definitely lost emigrate in favor of “out migration.”

Worse, it’s worse. People confuse sex with gender. Nouns have gender. People have sex.
We’ve misplaced most of our LY endings, I fondly remember adverbs when I was a youngster.

I lose a small piece of my soul every time someone confuses compliment and complimentary with complement and complementary.

This barbarism is all but ubiquitous on audio forums now.

Good call out. I was being intentional. Ingenious would be synonymous with very genius, in my view. My compliment was less emphatic.

I agree. I also question the intended sonic/sensual impressions offered when someone uses the term euphoric, not euphonic. Maybe she, the vocalist, really was in the room.

That started as a university/academic thing several decades ago. It happened during the very early phase of a push to redefine and reframe language (20th to 21st Century edition). As typical for these efforts, the outcome drifted and usage became muddled.

Social scientists and Critical Theory adherents at first tried to distinguish between biology (sex; anatomy; inborn reproductive function) and social presentation or behavior (gender; roles; appearance). But as often used today, the distinction comes across as incoherent babble.

My pet peeve is reviewers describing the build and quality of the “headphone yolk”.
