Sing Song Kitty 24/7:

Some of the memorable lyrics include:

Ram tom a doodlesnake rang tang a rattlebug

Now our cow won’t give milk in the summer

So we got to take it from her

Simply elegant!!!

Nerding out about 80s production this week, which always makes me think of this song.

I love guitar tone and vocal arrangements here, and this week I came across a thread by the producer (William Whitman) going through some of the detail on the process they went through to get this sound. I don’t know that I can always hear the difference, but there is something romantic about neve boards, car sized plate reverbs, and fancy german mics.

Is it just me or would you think the singer was that guy from Men at Work if you didn’t see the video?

Nice article on the behind the scenes of the sound.

I’ve been listening to Al Di Meola’s “Diabolic Inventions and Seduction for Solo Guitar, Volume I, Music of Astor Piazzolla”. Yes that’s actually the name of the album (probably some translation). And it’s excellent.

I couldn’t find it on Tidal but I think it’s on Spotify and Qobuz. To get a sense of it, listen to the song Adios Nonino.

With the right amp and can combo his stuff can really shine. I only got tidal so thats too bad for me I guess.

I would sign up for free but cant tolerate the ear splitting ads at 140dB.

Checking that out on Qobuz now - it’s great.
Also made a detour to Elegant Gypsy - just unbelievably 70s!

The song that ends this week’s Rick and Morty made me feel things. If you like reverby/dreampop/Xwave this may be a jam.

Danger Mouse “Theatrical” Collaboration Albums

Danger Mouse is a well known musician (e.g., Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells) and producer (e.g., Gorillaz, U2). This week I spotted his recent collaboration album with Karen O, and then went back to compare it to a similar prior collaborative albums.

Rome with Daniele Luppi (2011) – a quasi Spaghetti Western soundtrack, starring Jack White and Norah Jones.

Dark Night of the Soul with Sparklehorse (2010 - 2011) - A wide ranging collaboration with many (random) guest performers. Notorious for originally being released as a blank CD-R requiring (illegal) content downloading because of a copyright dispute. Sparklehorse himself met a very unhappy end, with an injury followed by suicide.

Lux Prima with Karen O (2019) – the album that caused this reexamination. It’s quite theatrical (akin to Rome), but comes across as more fully realized to my ears.

The first track of the album: “Fete”. The guitar riff reminds me “Here Comes the Sun” from The Beatles.

It’s very easy listening.
