This week I’ve been listening to the Guns N’ Roses Appetite for Destruction super deluxe edition remaster. While the remaster alone is actually inferior sound wise to the original, the additional material on 3 more CDs and 1 bluray audio is worth it. Not to forget the huge LP style book that came with it. I always liked GNR but never really explored their music in depth.
Also I am listening to Chris Jones, a singer /songwriter who died a while ago unfortunately.
He never got the credit he deserved. He made me like a genre that I never really liked very much.
Give that guy a listen. Music is great, and the recording quality is the best in the world. (not kidding, it’s from Stockfisch, an audiophile German label).
I listen to one of his album every week.
You may be on to something here… just gave it a quick listen.
Me I’ve been spinning a lot of Jeff Beck
Working my way through this list:
I’m on it. Super SQ!!!
Chris Jones made some great stuff!
I just switched to Steve Hackett Under a Mediterranean Sky. Yum.
I don’t think I’ve ever listened to Jeff Beck streaming. But I do seem to grab his vinyl and spin it once or twice a year.
Remixes of Werner Herzog’s soundtracks for “Cobra Verde” and “Idalgo” by Mika Vainio and Haswell&Hecker.
This album by Richard Skelton is simply a masterpiece
After seeing these folks discussed in various threads here I stumbled onto one of their CD’s at the Goodwill.
Very good musicianship, an odd collection of 4 very long tracks, depressing story being told.
Mark Gosdin
Reminds me of Twin Peaks
Some lines in common with Jóhannssón and Max Richter too.
Some passages called to my memory Penguin Cafè Orchestra.
Interesting discovery. It’s kinda funky, but it was well recorded and mastered. Think: Funky jazz, Nils Frahm, and Yoshi Hirokawa.
Ballad of the Broken Seas (2006) by Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan
Mercury Prize (UK) nominee. The review below is spot-on. Midnight mood music. Duets between a woman with a delicate, angelic voice and a man with a whisky-and-nicotine rasp. Sweet and sour. Smooth and rough.
