Thanks @prfallon69, I think focal is great, and get a lot of praise. Got to go to the Schitt shop to actually listen. Don’t got a amp or dac besides in my PC.

You gonna listen to the the Abyss on the Abyss!!
That is one of the best OSTs I have ever heard for any kind of production, period. It takes what is already a truly great show to the next level. I remember watching it on my tablet at night with headphones and paying just as much attention to the sound as I was to the visuals. Think it was created by an Australian chap who is apparently well known for creating these amazing soundtracks. I really should look in to his work, assuming Im remembering this correctly.
I should start an anime thread on here…

Stock or “upgraded” tubes?

I’m not going to lie - a big part of my enjoyment thus far is how awesome it looks. 
Right now, they’re all stock, except the 6SN7 tubes, which are Sylvanias. I actually have upgraded tubes on the way, which the original owner included, and just didn’t happen to arrive at the same time. Initial impressions are that there’s a bit of a loss of detail and speed vs straight out of the Hugo 2, but music definitely sounds smoother/“wetter”, and sound stage is much improved. This is my first tube amp, and from everything I’ve read about it, the Woo WA5 really benefits from upgraded tubes, so I’m hoping the new ones will kick things up a notch. Vocal, older, and poor recordings absolutely benefit from this amp, but thus far, I’d actually prefer the Hugo 2 direct for really great recordings. We’ll see how that all changes with the new tubes. Those still coming in are: Gold Lion 300B, EML 300B, Brimar 5Z4G (rectifier). The original owner said he prefers the EML/Brimar/Sylvania combo. If anyone else has experience w/ this amp, I’d be thrilled to hear your advice, as I know almost nothing about tube amps.

I have heard that about the WA5 as well, that tubes matter. Good that you got a preferred set coming in. I do believe there are a couple of folks here who have had that amp so maybe they will chime in
Its entirely possible your current bunch may not have been used at all, or very little, so you could be listening to tubes that arent broken in yet or need to be rebroken in so to speak. Keep listening and see what you get, a smooth amp may benefit the Utopia in some ways.

Thats one plus in the US you always get your packages within 1-7 days. Things shipped from asia and Europe I’ve always received quik none of this customs holding it for weeks.

I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the Lake People RS-08, especially if you get the chance to try it with the ZMF Vérité Closed. There’s not an awful lot about these amps on the interwebs. I’m using the similar but unbalanced RS-02 as my main amp right now, but I may have to find something else to use with the VC since neither of them pull any punches and it can get a bit much. Super dynamic and quite exciting until I start to feel like I’m being kicked.
