yeahh isn´t it? hahaa
a year ago I had no clue this “hobby” could bring so much fun
could stop right now adding other components and call it a day… done… would be reasonable…

  • no way! … the journey just began

the 1.25m short balanced Elegia cable + adapter to 3.5TRRS balanced for my ifi xDSD headphone out

decided against a splitter- so it does not yank between me and the table + it is lighter

Looks great! Where did you order it?

here: https://oidiosound.co.uk/headphone-cables/focal/mongrel-focal-elear.html

I chose the “Mongrel Series”

you can choose between all sorts of …
headphone connectors
colours(24+) and also between left and right + third colour for braided models(they even have purple)
lengths
source connectors(XLR, 2.5/3.5/4.4 - all balanced or 3.5/6.35 single ended)
splitters
left and right heat shrink markings (I chose grey and black instead of black and red or others)
materials
and forms (like split lenghts(from 25 up to 45cm)

the adaptor: https://oidiosound.co.uk/mongrel-adaptor.html or https://oidiosound.co.uk/accessories/adaptors/pellucid-plus-adaptor.html
can be custom made with
colour left and right + a third (plus)
Connector End 1 and 2
lenght
branding or no branding

have a few other cables made by oidio… Sennheiser balanced for example
communication is fast and professional - JT is a friendly guy
last time we spoke about female 3.5 TRSS connector endings - which are rare but he can organize
so if you need something special, ask him
you don´t have to wait for months… it´s about 2 weeks from order to shipping every time
tracking works perfect

so I did not try others like periapt because of shipping costs+ taxes and fees from US to germany
Forza Audio is in poland, but high cost - so i did not order, while they look great and get high praised

hope that Brexit does not affect it in the future
these stupid politic decisions… we live in strange times… lots of things evolve backwards

will compare it to my xDSD(DAC) with the THX AAA 789

it is available with next day shipping (not china) and Ama… send back policy…
I had a bit plus on my Ama… account - so spent only 170 instead of 210€

Drop balanced SDAC would be again weeks waiting - with shipping to germany and no free send back option from here
and 150$ + shipping + 19% taxes + 28,50€ duty fees… but yes it should be less fatiguing - from Torqs review…
I want to hear the SU-8 on my own… with my “bright” 1990s (for example) over the THX AAA789 - if its a tad to much - it goes back. Have no problem with the ifi xDSD as DAC - love it with the 789

I don´t like the SU-8´s remote-only usabilty and the useless mini-screen

A big package of iBasso stuff arrived! These are loaners from headphones.com and they just started carrying this brand this week!

iBasso DX220 and my new Hiby R5

Is that DX 220 as enormous as it looks or is the Hiby just a small unit?

The R5 is the first DAP under 500 I could finally decide on - from what I read
It has quite some juice with 2x564mW on a 32Ohm load
Less hiss than R6Pro with sensitive IEMS
Android Oreo open to Google Play Store
DTA like on R6Pro/Cayin N6ii and DX220
MSEB could help a newby like me to change a bit without getting deep in EQ
HiBy UAT codec sounds on paper better than LDAC
Soundwise more balanced with a touch more warmth than M11?
Even a MQA update is on the horizon

Skipped M11 but this one could be it.
I am very interested in your opion

From playing with @antdroid s Hiby R5 a bit back, it is small…I would say similar to the SR15, but not as thick and with a much bigger screen. Honestly a really nice bit of kit. But I’ll let @antdroid speak on the rest of the stuff =)

@taronlissimore its a bigger DAP - i’d say bigger/thicker than the M11 and XDP-300R. The Hiby R5 is similar sized to the SR15, just slightly longer. The lower end DX150 is the same size as the DX220 pretty much. Build is very similar too. I havent turned it on yet though.

@MartinTransporter I’ll hae to repost my review on this site soon. My R5 review is here: https://www.antdroid.net/2019/09/hiby-r5-digital-audio-player.html

What a nice review
and thanks for the grey background on your blog
It made reading in the dark quite enjoyable
I saw the SR15 used for 525 on EB italy- would be nice to have a A&K but I think the moment the mqa update for the R5 is finished- it is hard to beat for sound and Features

Did they send the nutube module as well?

Nope. that would be something to try out though!

You are shorter than I imagined. Must be a heavy EDC.

New toy day…

Audeze…hint hint…

Definitely…an Audeze headphone…

It’s the LCD-GX!! Woot

Very light in comparison to other Audeze headphones…plus I’m digging on the color scheme…the headband definitely feels cheap compared to the other Audeze line…but not horrible… overall very nice! Now to get some head time …
