Only pairing with Emotiva XPA-7 amp, XMC-1 processor and Marantz UD5007 for CD’s.
The sound is superb being they tower me in my sitting position. The center tweeter lines up with my ear.
The cat is the problem my son is he like to push in center caps. Waiting for my grills which should have come at the same time.
It’s going to be tough to get a good soundstage as the right side is close to the wall and left isn’t.
I used to have a set of infinity RS-2’s that a buddy sold me for cheap because his son had destroyed the surrounds on all 4 woofers.
These remind me of them on steroids
The array works it gives the output of a horn without the horn signature. I’ve always loved big horn speakers for playing edm through. Good thing the Double Impacts are easy to setup. I had to sacrifice the bass due to furniture. Though the sacrifices of bass I gain lots of depth.
Now that I’m traveling again for work I figured it was a good excuse to up my IEM game. Bought these used on another forum. Biggest take away so far: tips make a HUGE difference!
Overall I really like them. I’m sure these will lead to a few additional pairs for comparison and ultimately a final selection. I’m curious to see how these do with the ambient noise on an airplane.
Congrats! I haven’t used mine on public transport yet but with its shallow fit, I’m not sure how well the Andro 2020 will isolate. Having said that, I get a pretty decent seal. I’d be interested to hear your experience.
Tips can make a huge difference. With the Andros, the output impedance of sources also makes a difference. Sources with an OI below 1 ohm will make them sound darker and bassier; in the 1.5-2.0 ohm range is the sweet spot for me, and above that, the bass becomes lighter and the treble stronger.
I also found that my source makes a significant difference when it comes to bass slam and macrodynamics. On some sources, these qualities were too soft; on my Sony ZX2 DAP and the Lotoo Paw S1 dongle, they were much stronger.
Thanks, that may explain a few things I’ve been hearing! I’ve listened to them on a Fiio M11 and a AQ Cobalt, and the Cobalt definitely sounded a bit bass-heavy. I’ll see if I can get my hands on a Lotoo Paw S1 - I really prefer a dongle over a DAP since I get most of my portable music directly from my phone.
I tried a couple of the tips that were included and so far the ones that look like Dekoni Bulletz (no labels, so they could very well be) seemed to work best. I tried the next size down and it was like I was listening to music through a tin can telephone. It’s amazing how much that seal (and probably the material?) made a difference!
Those are the CA Marshmallow tips, I believe. They’re good tips and, yes, the tin can sound is a sure sign that you don’t have a proper seal.
For what it’s worth, I use silicone tips for my Andromeda 2020. I do so for two reasons, the first of which is purely subjective - I need wide tips for a good seal and for shallow-insertion IEMs, foam tips don’t do it for me. The second reason is that I tend to find that foam tips can blunt the top end a bit, reducing the treble sparkle and making for a darker tonality. The Andro 2020 is already slightly dark - especially compared to its predecessor versions - and so I use silicone tips to bring the tuning closer to neutral. My go to tips are these ones, which are nice and cheap although it takes a few weeks for them to arrive in the US. I’ve also had good success with the Azla Sedna Earfit tips, especially the Light ones. The Regular ones add a bit more bass heft.
The Lotoo Paw S1 is a decent dongle. I’ve not heard many others - so I can’t compare it to others out there - but I know of a couple of people who, like me, find it a good pairing with the Andro 2020. As a very sensitive IEM, the Andro doesn’t need lots of power. A key issue is hiss. The S1 is nice and quiet with the Andromeda 2020. But bear in mind that the S1 is not powerful and won’t drive headphones very well, especially out of a phone (it sounds better coming from the USB port of a laptop). If you’re interested, MusicTeck is a dealer for Lotoo products and they sell used S1 dongles, which would save you a bit of cash and would reduce risk of being out of pocket if you don’t like it. My used S1 from MusicTeck was in mint condition.
Thanks for this - unfortunately I saw this a bit too late and paid full price ($20 more than MusicTeck) on Amazon. Oh well, the good news is the S1 will show up tomorrow so I have that to look forward to!
The first thing that stands out is the cable. It’s flexible! Miracle of Miracles. If HifiMan could use a cable like this on the HE-X4 why did they use the Catheter Tube cables on all their higher dollar stuff?
Anyway I will be reporting my impressions of the HE-X4 in the thread under HifiMan.
