What's in the box!

Today’s arrival! Probably should’ve ordered one of their awesome headphone stands and an upgraded cable :grimacing:

I was lucky enough to meet Justin (@ampsandsound) and purchase the Agartha at CanJam SoCal 2021 this weekend. Thank you Justin!

The headphones are just for effect. Bifrost should be here tomorrow, though!

Totally insane purchase, I don’t think there is any way I could justify it, but it’s paid for now.
I wanted a balanced version of it’s little brother, but had been unable to find one when this showed up used.

So this came the middle of last week after wandering around metro Charlotte, NC for 4 days.

I had some bonus points with Drop and they had a good price on these.

They pair nicely with my LG K51, good clean sound on music & phone calls.

I love the colour of these. A really beautiful set of headphones.

Yes, that is yet another blue color that makes the phones pure eye candy.

I actually bought books from Amazon this week … well mostly books.

This Smiley Smile package came today. With a little box in it.

Quarks. What a name.

Minimalist packaging, but they did not forget the Anime girl!

This is the first time I’ve had to put the ear tips on a new IEM. I went with the medium size and so far it all seems to fit. For $12 the sound is good and they will go into the travel kit for that some future day when travel is again a part of my life.

Why would you buy a Beyerdynamic?!?!

600 ohms is why.

After 30 minutes I’m shocked at how good this sounds. The HD 58X is unusable with the Crack. The HD 600 is noisy and not very good (no Speedball installed). The HD 6XX somehow transforms into another product and is fantastic with the basic BHC. When you own a Crack, 600 ohm curiosity must be satisfied. So far, great! The treble isn’t excessive, and the DT 880 seems competitive with the HD 6XX (on the Crack at least).

I grabbed this on sale so no great loss if I get rid of it. The 3m cable comes out the left side only and feels like a rubber garden hose crossed with al dente pasta, but it’s still better than a HiFiMan cable.

Nice… I’ve been thinking about getting a Beyer too. Just to hear for myself what they sound like…I don’t seem to be that sensitive to treble. So, the question is 880 or 990 (600ohm in both)? My mind wants to say both……just to mark that question off my list lol

I read the reviews and the 990 is a bass-heavy V profile product. The 880 is “flat” in Beyer’s world. I don’t think one is better than the other per se. I bought new, but found more used 600 ohm 990s on the market than 600 ohm 880s. Both have solid reviews.

I think the 880 excels at vocals and the mid range. It’s a tad hissy and fatiguing with aggressive rock relative to the HD 6XX on the Crack.

880’s are less offensive in the beyer lineup. 990’s if you really want to lean into the beyer signature.

Have you performed the lick test to confirm if it is in fact not pasta? :grinning:

I’m actually quite shocked that the treble doesn’t bother you with the 880 but it did with the Elex. Could the Crack be smoothing things over?

It’s black and likely squid ink pasta, and that’s never my favorite.

I didn’t own my magical green amps when I had the Elex. nor the Bifrost 2. The 880 DOES have treble issues, but not nearly as bad as Beyer’s reputation. It’s about as fatiguing as the Elex, or the HD 600 on a bad amp. Actually, the RebelAmp is smoother with the 880 than the Crack. I think the Crack’s noise would decline with the Speedball. Still, I can use the HD 6XX for hours without fatigue.

EDIT: The HD 600 becomes a lot quieter on a balanced cable. I bet the 880 would improve too.

That’s awesome! Oh, but this broadcast message has not been approved by ASR, so it’ll have to be removed.

Seriously, though, it’s amazing how much an amp can effect synergy, even a SS one.

A balanced cable might not be a bad idea if you do decide to keep the 880. Enjoy!
