Speaking of good timing, I received a shipment of SACDs from Japan to listen to on my Stellaris:

Glenn Gould The Complete Bach Collection 26 SACDs
The Who Tommy SHM-SACD
The Police Synchronicity SHM-SACD

very nice!

Got a Utopia OG in the house today.
Bought it from a guy on head-fi, this is b-stock (because of the packaging I think) and came with full warranty and is basically brand new with only burn in hours on it.
Not sure I’ll keep it but wanted to test it out with a few more things in the next few weeks.

Happy Birthday @frkasper too!

Yea it is. Good net bracket. If I were in his area I’d be taunting @hnordberg to play for a buck a point until I was convinced he plays better than me.

One regret in my present home is no room for a table.

Beautiful setup! Congrats! Welcome to team blue. We have cake.

Lol you clearly don’t keep track of my collection. Owned and sold Susvara, Utopia 2022, 1266 TC, Mysphere 3.2, LCD-5, HE1000se, VC, Atrium, HD800S, Empyrean to name a few.

Currently have the D8000 Pro LE and the Utopia OG at home and a X9000 on order. Will probably buy Susvara again later this year after the HM1 arrives.

I really will, most likely, sell the Utopia :man_shrugging:t2:

Could you give me your thoughts on the Tommy SACD? The American one isn’t anything special

Curiosity killed the @andris. After hearing the Burson Soloist 3X GT at CanJam and being shocked at how much I enjoyed an amp that was entirely not on my radar, I couldn’t resist a fantastic used deal I came across.

Years ago, I bought (and then sold) an SPL Phonitor XE, which I found to be a downgrade from direct out of DAVE. My notes from the time were that the external amp had a touch more grain and a touch of loss of microdetail. With the major caveat that, in retrospect, this may have had at least something to do with my interconnects at the time, I ended up pretty much deciding an external solid state amp was pointless when the DAVE was doing so well (at least on my easy-to-drive Utopia).

However, after continuing to read feedback that I could do better than DAVE direct, and after hearing the Burson myself, I gave it another go.

Sure, I currently have new-toy-itis, but I’m really enjoying it so far. The clearest difference (vs DAVE) is a much expanded sound stage and better instrument separation. There’s quite a bit of holography going on as well - the tubiest solid state I’ve heard in that respect (but not tube-y warm, to be clear). I don’t anticipate it replacing my Stellaris anytime soon, but I’ll feel a hell of a lot better about keeping this on during a busy work day with choppy meetings, where I may only get 20-30 minute chunks of listening time.

Congrats on your new toy, and to the newest member (and everyone else) of Team Blue!

I’ll be interested in your further thoughts on the Burson, as I have one as well. The soundstage is indeed quite expansive with it, with a holographic aspect as you describe. It’s interesting you use “tubey” to describe that attribute of it, as I don’t have enough tube experience to compare it with.

What’s your take on the fan? That would also be influenced by how silent your listening environment is I would think…

I’ll look forward to your thoughts as you listen to it. I feel like this amp maybe doesn’t get a lot of love? Not sure. Not very many people seem to have one or know much about it. FWIW Lachlan (Passion for Sound) quite liked it, and had it in his setup for some time. I don’t know if that’s still true though. But he’s an Aussie! :+1:

I suspect the “tubey” characteristics can be attributed to the amp being class A.

A couple of years ago, when I compared my Burson Soloist 3XP to my ZMF Pendant tube amp, I noticed that the Burson had a similar 3D holographic vividness of vocals and instruments. The only other class A SS amp I’ve heard is the Pass HPA-1 and that had a similar presentation (although different sound).

Really great headphone, can be a little exhausting it has so much energy (and I’m used to more laid back cans like Susvara and D8KPLE) but I’m enjoying it a lot with the LTA MZ3.
