Sweet!!! Can’t wait to read impressions!
For me the only question is whether these make significantly less demands on the amplifier and can therefore put the considerable additional cost into perspective.
In my opinion the $8000 price tag doesn’t really justify the look and quality, so they really, I mean really…….have to deliver in terms of sound.
That’s the thing: are they easier to drive? Absolutely. But are they so much easier to drive that $8K for Sus-U makes more sense than Sus-OG + an adequate amplifier? I haven’t heard it, but I would be SHOCKED if the answer is yes. This whole thing reeks of gimmick to me. Focal could fall back on “the driver is more reliable”, and that made Nutopia make sense. Susvara’s driver has never been in question, so the only question was “is it easier to drive?” If the answer is yes, then they had a massive win on their hands if they just priced it AT PAR. But they priced it $2K more. Without grills and with silver (vs gold) driver traces. So it better sound massively better. Right?
They priced it at about the same price as OG Susvara in 2017 when you adjust for inflation.
I can confirm that they still aren’t Apple Dongle friendly.
Af far as drivability, all I have is an Envy 25 on my desk which is my favourite combo with the original Sus and a great pairing with the Susvara Unveiled. @GoldenSound should be getting his unit soon and will be able to run it through its paces and will be able to comment more on what works and what doesn’t.
That is very reasonable. Once again. Congrats man. I hope you have this Caldera for 25+ years.
….
Lol… uh yep. I’d say this is one of those times!!
I’m just a wee bit jealous .
This is of course a combo that is affordable for everyone’s budget.
The Volkswagen of headphone units, so to speak.
Taron! Great! I really look forward to some of your feelings on this headphone. By the way. Are you at work or hardly working?
Ohhhh……
on a (at least) $25000 Combo, are they worth it ……
Let me guess……… Yes
I was going to… but so many people already beat me to it
More power to 'em if that’s what the market will bear. Still, this is luxury, branding, and status pricing rather than technology pricing. Focal’s Clear and Elex sell for about half of their intro prices despite inflation, and Sennhesier’s prices have been flatish or down too. The development costs are fully covered, the market demand is satisfied, and there’s apparently not much cost in pumping out the same item with the same processes.
Did the OG Susvara get a 50% retail price cut?
Yeah, I don’t buy the “inflation” argument in this case either. This price increase is even more egregious than Focal with the Utopia. Whatever, I’ll never buy these anyway…
Tbh my comment was less about whether the price is justified in any way and more about the fact that it is, in fact, $2K more than MSRP on the Sus-OG which will continue in Hifiman’s lineup. I have no argument with the naked MSRP, I understand luxury pricing. Inflationary adjustments aside, that means we are in fact comparing a $6K headphone (which can be readily had for under $4K) vs an $8K headphone. This pricing implies that Hifiman feels quite strongly that there is no $4K amp that will make Sus-OG outperform Sus-U. EIther that or they totally fumbled the pricing on this one.
+1 on the fumble. It almost feels like an April Fools joke, but it isn’t April.

Yeah. I realize that having just recently bought a Sus-OG my thoughts on this new release might come off as sour grapes, but it’s really not that at all. I just think the whole thing smacks of gimmickry and desperation to release something new when they had already reached the top of the audiophilia mountain. But I would love to be wrong. Maybe “unveiled” is the new “stealth magnet”.

For those with good memories, yes, I did this before. My interconnects and case “walked away” at some point during the past school year.
Be really funny if he said it truly ‘sucked.’
You never know. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
But you haven’t heard it yet.
To your point though in fairness I kinda doubt if one (like yourself) who owns the original Susvara will find Susvara 2 worth buying as well. I say this because I don’t believe Susvara 1 & 2 will be complementary to one another. Owning both might be overkill or maybe redundant.
