Tonight when I logged into Headphones.com, I was confronted with and entirely new look. So far, I can’t say I’m a fan. Did I miss the memo?
We’re still working on it
If I might offer a suggestion… give the option of enlarging the message area to cover the full screen (i.e., none of the green background showing).
I’m not hating it, and honestly prefer the green borders over the prior blue bar (which stood out against my black background). This version reminded me of a 1980s greeting card in Keith Haring’s style:
If we are doing suggestions, I’d suggest improving contrast and adhering to W3C and ADA standards. Consider that some may be colorblind and others have low vision. Yellow on white and light grey on white are ill advised.
I can’t say I’m a fan of the new look, it seems like a lot of wasted space.
If we’re taking suggestions I much prefer the dark mode look of say SBAF or the Sonus Apparatus forum, forum.sonusapparatus.com
It’s much easier on the eyes.
I fully agree! I tend to favor dark themes, anyway. Also agree on the wasted space, although that seems to be less today for some reason.
The new look isn’t doing it for me.
Not sure what the border adds (beyond being ugly); just seems to reduce readable screen width for no good reason. Certainly doesn’t improve utility or readability.
Designers doing design things for the sake of designers.
If you really want to have fun you can head over to the YouTube channel for some education on tariffs. Doing big things here.
Yes, the wasted space and borders have been lessened but it’s still an issue. This wasn’t an intentional choice, more so part of a theme that we’re not thrilled with. If I had my druthers, we’d also have it default to dark mode (right now it’s an option). If you guys also want dark mode as the default look, please let @taronlissimore know.
Edit - we’ve just increased the width, let us know if this is reasonable.
Well I feel pretty dumb, was that option there all along?
I changed it to dark, my eyes are much happier!
Yes, dark mode is legitimately good on this theme. I suggest everyone use it, especially for now while we iron things out.
No, this is not an improvement at all. Even with Dark Mode it still has so much wasted space compared to the right way for it to be, i.e. like it was.
Sorry, but if I’m allowed a vote I’m for put it back.

Getting a whole new look out of the blue always triggers some allergic reactions I remember when Headphones.com moved to their new logo so I had to change the watermark for all my review photos. I didn’t like the re-design at the time but whenever I look at old photos with the old logo watermark, I can’t stand it haha.
Anyway, for those wanting to go back to the old design, there is a setting in your preferences:
Just get rid of the friggin light yellow, light green, and light grey on white.
Not section 508 compliant or W3C compliant. Get a clue. Take it from someone that used to manage teams serving $80m worth of Scholarly and Professional publishing clients’ electronic products.
Way better, thank you.
The new design has significantly less wasted space than the old one.
This is the old design:
This is the new design at the same size/scale:
It just may be less obvious since the old design didn’t have a distinct background, but it was narrower.
FWIW, I’m not the one making the changes nor mandating these colors. In fact I also personally do not like them. We’re trying certain things and seeing if we can improve the layout in various ways, this is just where things are at for now.
It’s kind of a Moot issue now since I was able to revert the changes in my preferences. To be honest my initial response is what you get from me when I try to be coherent after being woken up in the middle of the night.

I think many are speaking of the changes on the mobile platform. It’s significantly less space. Desktop seems fine.
