New Here? This Is The Spot To Introduce Yourself

Hello and welcome @KNUPAC. Sorry folks, I did this yesterday but forgot post it as I was browsing elsewhere. I’m always doing this. Absent minded. Lol.

Edit: Hello and welcome @Audioraider.

Hi from Japan! Long time lurker here. Thanks to all the great writing and discussions here I’ve discovered quite a few amazing pieces of gear in the past year. I first dipped my toes into this hobby way back in 2003 when Grado SR60s were all the rage and it’s pretty crazy now how many choices there are to enjoy hi-fi today. I really like the friendly vibe here and couldn’t resist signing up. I hope I can contribute back to this great community!

Thought I’d say hello as well. I have been over on Head-Fi since 2005, but I have found myself reading here a lot recently. I am usually in the threads with “ZMF” in the title. I look forward to contributing to the discussions here!

I’ve been a member here for a while, sometimes commenting or questioning but usually lurking. I also do Reddit and a number of YouTube reviewers. I’ve been into audiophile listening for literally decades (I’m 74). My 2 channel system, which is ca. 25 years old, is made up of Conrad Johnson components, so I’m familiar with the world of tubes. It’s power amp is the Legendary MV 45, which is still going strong. My first headphone was an HD 580 which I bought in the leading department store in Dresden, Germany, where I was teaching in 1999. I still have it–how could I let it go? It still sounds good, as do my other Senns: 6xx, 600, and 800. I still love their magic mid range and the ridiculous ability to screen. This was dramatically illustrated just recently when @resolve in his review of the new 560 commented on his experience with the 650 and the Phonitor SE (I think that’s right). I’ve had a similar experience with my Phonitor E.

My current journey into the rabbit hole of HP began with the Massdrop 6XX. I was in the second round of this drop. On the advice of my audiophile son, who puts me to shame, I got into a heap of Schiit and came out with the Gumby MB (recently upgraded with the Unison USB) and Valhalla 2. From Massdrop I got the 7xx and 58x.

I listen with Roon or direct from Tidal (master, hifi)>gumby MB>Vahalla 2/Phonitor E/Grace M 900 (for portability).
I really appreciate this site. It’s head and shoulders about other web sites. The civility and willingness to help newcomers to this hobby is exemplary.
And yes, I really am a law prof. And before that a real lawyer. Don’t hold it against me!
I love music, and my tastes are pretty broad. I have literally 100’s of CDs, mostly classical, but I also like Pop, Bluegrass, '70s arena rock (Jouney, Boston, Foreigner, etc.). Really, everything except hip hop.

Welcome to the forum @LawProf! It sounds like you’re going to bring a lot of audio experience to this forum.

And I look forward to your recommendations in the Classical Music thread.

A warm welcome to all of our new arrivals, my apologies for not naming you all individually, I hope you all enjoy this great place!

I take it that by “classical” you’re referring to his CDs, and not his 70’s Arena.

Welcome @LawProf, Some interesting parallels. I’m on my 3rd visit to the headphone rabbit hole, my 2nd also started with the Senn HD-580. So how did your son get to be an audiophile? Were you a bad influence? My wife is the house Journey Fangirl.

I haven’t seen that one yet. Is it on this site?

The Classical Music thread (for classical music, not classic rock) is here:

Not my fault! It was the other way round. He decided he wanted a better audio set in high school and went to a local audio store. He ended up working there on the weekends and started trading up on equipment. Now he has Make Leveinson mono blocks! And B&W 802s. And there’s more! He also has a integrated tube amp from Prima Luna. He totally put me to shame!

Your wife has good taste. I confess a weakness for Journey myself.

Very nice. The B&W 802’s were on my wife’s “Approved for Someday” list until she heard some Wilson’s.

Thank you, I agree - except that she still has me. You need to see the movie of their discovery and first year with Arnel Pineda if you have not. Here’s the YouTube trailer.

We’ve seen them quite a few times in the past 5 years, but not in the old days. Always pay for the good seats, life is short. Have met them also. She’s the Arnel fan, I like Steve Smith - even when not with Journey, we both liked Deen, and Ross. Neil and Jonathan are a little more distant, although Jonathan was nice at Steve Smith’s Fabric of Rhythm art show in Vegas.
