New Here? This Is The Spot To Introduce Yourself

Hi and welcome!! You are not the only one, you’ll get use to it.

It occurred to me that although I’ve been on here for more than a year, I’ve never introduced myself. Some of you have already suffered through meeting me in person, so you can save time and skip this.

I’ve been an audiophile for almost 30 years (am I really that old?) and when I started working full-time, nice headphones were called for. Grado’s SR60 has recently come out, and they were delightful. Egged on by a fellow audiophile in the office, the SR60s were superseded by HD580s with a Headroom Supreme amp, then HD650s right after they launched (the story of how I got them from Switzerland is entertaining, involving a handoff on a street corner in Washington DC), and a Headroom Max amp. That combo served me well for about a decade until I switched to working in an open office and AKG K550s entered the picture. These were followed by Mr Speakers AFCs (preordered - I was desperate) and then Focal Elegias shortly after they came out. Along the way I’ve acquired far too many amps (5? 6? I should go down to the basement sometime and count them), quite a few DACs, and some really wonderful new friends from this board. Thanks for having me.

Welcome. Grado 60’s were such a great value. Next up for me was the Senn 600’s

I was going to get the 600s, and then the 650s were announced …

Hello and welcome John. Don’t worry you’ll soon get the hang of it and nobody around here will judge you. Again welcome and enjoy.

Welcome John. What is the insignia on the back of your jacket in your photo, and what headphones do you like and use.

I’ve had some concerns about how easy or difficult it is for people in the first few hours here because if it’s frustrating you might not stay.

Good day. I am a retired GP and have just joined the Headphone community. We have just bought our first apartment and since noise disturbance can be an issue, decided to buy 2 headphones for the Home Cinema systems we are installing. As I am new to this subject, I will be asking for advice. Please bear with me.

Welcome. We’ll all do our best to help you spend your headphone money wisely, foolishly, pecuniously, or lavishly as you prefer.

As a recently retired GP, you certainly know what industry you come from and what GP stands for. Since I lack this information, please tell us more about yourself. I consulted Acronym Finder, and surmise you must be one of the below:

  • General Partner

  • General Practitioner

  • Glycoprotein

  • General Public

  • Guinea Pig

  • Grand Puba

  • General Pathologist

  • Guilty Pleasure

Or any of a few more obscure things. Please excuse my sense of humor. I’m told it’s worse on weekends.

Hi

Sorry, here in the UK, ‘GP’ usually means only one thing. General Practitioner, sometimes called Family Doctor in other countries.
