Sometimes the entire view was obscured by clouds and mist … sometimes it looks like this … but it was always quite dramatic.

Not really “off-topic” (as @generic has observed for some (most) of my posts in this thread) …
But I just noticed that one of my Qobuz playlists, surfaced through Roon, has added about 60 tracks that I’ve NEVER HEARD before, all on its own.
No commonality in style, label, artist, genre etc. so doubt it’s a not targeted thing (probably a bug somewhere), but having a playlist double in size with music you’ve never bleedin’ heard is very strange (though about half of it was quite good).
@Torq this is a dope Star Wars watch…not super fancy but one of the better “high” end implementations visually anyway. Loving the face! (Specifically the Death Star model)

Now that it’s up to generation 5, the Apple watch might be approaching usefulness. Still, it is annoying that they only claim “up to 18 hours” per charge. My old Elgin doesn’t even use batteries and gets about 36 hours per windup.
Apple’s decline started with the $17,000 first generation gold watch and their focus on the new style over substance HQ building. Sigh…
my Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 Classic did reach 1.5 days with “normal” usage,
but I always had my SKX 007 on the other wrist beeing an analog automatic with around 41 hours power reserve
So how far have we come? My Lord Elgin 21 Jewel ran about $300 when it was new in about 1950. I think the 559 movement was designed in about 1948. All it does is tell time. The second hand is small. The watch is lightweight, has a leather strap, is not waterproof. If wound regularly, and serviced every decade or two, it keeps on going. Accurate to within a minute or maybe 2 per month.
Current value would probably be about $400-500, as it has a 14k solid gold case.
In 80 years, what will we expect the Apple Watch series 5 to do and to be worth? Titanium case with mesh metal band, 44mm face goes for $899.

We took the kids to their first ACL Festival today. Saw GoGo Penguin, Joseph and Drew Holcombe. No one was injured and I learned that it’s possible to enjoy live music even after becoming a parent! I also learned that my children will not wear hearing protection and consequently go deaf as quickly as I have, maybe faster since we’ll probably exposed them to more live music than my parents did me.
So last week, Barbara and I went to Las Vegas, where Journey is doing a residency at Caesar’s Palace. We took in opening night from 2nd row center (first row was silly expensive, and still sold out while I was dithering if it was worth the differential).
Journey’s current drummer, Steve Smith, was their original drummer, back since 2015 after a 30 year break where he won just about every Jazz drummer and general drummer award a few times over. He plays with his own jazz group, Vital Information, when he’s not touring with Journey.
Steve not only plays drums, he teaches them. And he’s exceedingly precise and innovative. He’s done international drum camps, where he met Zakir Hussein and became highly influenced by Indian percussion.
One of Steve’s practice techniques involves practicing in a darkened room with lit drumsticks. This way, he can see his movements and work on consistency and efficiency. One of his friends suggested that he do some time lapse photographs and a team of fine art photographers put together a 2014 show, The Fabric of Rhythm. I snarfed up a couple of these 2 or 3 years ago, when I was last in Vegas for a Journey residency. (Did I mention that Barbara is a Journey fan, especially the singer, Arnel Pineda?)
This year, he has added to some new works in a new series, and we picked up the work above, “Internal Conception-External Perception”. It has a light silhouette of Steve, some of his drum patterns making the forms, and drum notation describing the forms worked in. An edition of 25.
Spurred by the exhibit, I spent most of my airline wait times listening toVital Information, NYC Edition streaming on Tidal.

Back at last. I have been stressing since 7.30am UK time unable to access the forum or the Headphones.com website. I thought I would miss my daily visit. 10 mins ago I was suddenly able to get back on Forum though I did regain access to main site around 4 hours ago. Spooky. Anyone else had issues?
