I actually have an Aeron, but seriously considering one of those Stressless recliners…
Something like:
LoL, exactly! The sacral/lumbar support is what I love too.
@Zachik - That would be fantastic for a dedicated den/listening room. I want to try one, they look so comfy
Yeah - I need to try it out, too. Very challenging during COVID times. Sigh.
Stressless have several models, and if I am splurging $2-3K for a recliner - it should be absolutely amazing!!
Try before you buy! Try before you buy!
My prior workplace converted to Aerons – all in the smaller sizes. Taller and heavier staff considered them torture devices, as they cut into legs, backs, and (sides) when flesh contacted the internal braces. They added some larger Aerons, but then winter hit. Mesh seats and backs don’t retain any heat at all, and literally serve as an evaporative cooler. I brought a sweatshirt from home and put it over the mesh to stay warm. A colleague brought his blanket and created a nest! One woman couldn’t figure out why she was freezing despite running a space heater under her desk.
I’d honestly choose an average wooden dining table chair over an Aeron.
Mjolnir, i get very literal at the end of the day.
I’d suggest the Steelcase Leap as an alternative to the Aeron. I’ve been using one for the last 5 years.
You can’t go wrong with a Steelcase Leap - that is a great chair! I’ve used a Leap V2 at home for many years and used an Aeron in the office. We recently got Haworth Zody chairs (4D arm version) at home and I find them to be more ergonomic for longer periods of sitting. The lumbar support and armrests are far superior to the Leap and Aeron IMO.
We love our Stressless chairs, we have had a large and a medium pair since 2010. Love them and comfy.
When it comes to chairs these are a few companies I have saved for the future:
1. Haworth
https://www.haworth.com/eu/en/products/executive-chairs/zody-1.html
2. Autonomous (leaning to the more affordable side)
3. Antares (high quality, they don’t seem overpriced). I sat in the Motion model a few years back, and it was the most comfortable chair in the salon (it was more comfortable than the “flagship” chair which cost at least 3x the price).

4. Hookl Und Stookl (gorgeous looking handmade armchairs and foot rests, I’m not sure how much they cost)
https://www.hooklundstool.com/products/
5. Kinnarps (the 6000 and Plus models look very fine)
6. Interstuhl (one of the best looking chairs, they seem to be only available in Germany as of now. Their Pure model stands out)
My brain read COKE day
The HA-200 powers the 1266. The resolution is amazing. It has 3/4 of an amp per channel. I was surprised the amp can power Abyss. It definitely has to do with high current output. Planars love current. Only thing missing from the amp are pre-outs. I’d like to see how the dac sounds on my WA33 Elite.
My problem is:
They have like 4-5 different models, and each got 2 sizes (I will probably need the smaller one).
So, without trying it out - impossible to know which would feel “just right for me”…
Lucky for us, we had a store with all the models and sizes and I got mine and the wife got hers. Man if you can set it it, by all means try it out. I’m a big guy, 6’1 215 so the larger worked fine. The wife 5’6" 120 took the smaller one. .
Skull was my first iem.
Haha - I am probably right in the middle… 5’9" and probably 160-170 (do not dare to step on a scale and witness the covid weight effect on me
)
Which Stressless model did you end up with? Do you remember which other models you tried, and what did you like less about them? I never shopped for recliners before, so if I go forward - that will be my first one! ![]()
My sister and I bought Aeron chairs for my whole family this past xmas, and everyone is a huge fan. If you do your research carefully, you can get good refurbished ones for about half the price of new, but it’s a massive pain to do said research, and like @generic said, “try before you buy.” A lot of stuff on ebay or Craigslist is garbage.
For anyone in the NYC area, I lucked into finding a fellow just starting a refurbished furniture business, and I witnessed first-hand the care with which he refurbishes and cleans the furniture before it finds a new home. David Esterlit recently founded OHR Home Office Solutions, and I actually met him at his home before he had a physical retail space. Super pleasant guy, and I’d buy from him again any day. He even offers a two year warranty on his refurbished models, so you can have even more confidence in the transaction. All of our chairs from him are still in tip-top shape, and everyone’s backs are in better shape for having had them while working from home.
