These really have my interest. Many positive reviews and seem to be easy to drive. May have to check these out. Your post may have put me over the edge haha.
It’s Sunday, just another day for delivery by Amazon.
Small plain cardboard box.
Heavily bubble wrapped. ( I didn’t know at the time but this would take 15 minutes to remove. )
Mumified in bubble wrap.
It’s another adventure in Low Cost Headphone Accessories. Specifically a Douk Audio U3 Headphone Amplifier.
It tosses the old “Black” vs “Silver” faceplate argument to one side and proudly proclaims “BRONZE !”
More fun to be had.

Picked these up to be my edc… feel like I might regret taking my Mest2 to work every day. Plus, they’re too isolating…have to constantly take them out. Also, the Mest are still awkward fitting. Even after wearing them every day for about a month I still haven’t found the right fit/tips/cable. These on the other hand were comfortable right away with Xelastecs. Totally forget they’re there. Cable is pretty garbage but usable. Haven’t had enough time to form an opinion on sound other than they don’t sound bad…sound pretty damn good actually. Obviously not up there with the Mest2 but being comfortable for work/commute is a big deal…don’t really need totl performance for on the go.
Would you be willing to give us a little information on what those pads do to the DT series? I’m hoping it helps smooth the treble. A first-hand account would be very helpful
At long last, I have completed my DAC journey for the foreseeable future with a little birthday gift to myself made by the fine folks at Chord…
And I feel like I’d be disappointing folks if I didn’t follow up my DAVE unboxing post with a bit more stop motion action, so here it is!
A box on a chair.
An open box on a chair.
The thing that was in the box on a chair.
The top of the thing that was in the box on a chair.
The back of the thing that was in the box on a chair, on the same chair.
Congrats!
How’s the Dave headphone out compared to the DNA?
Ahhh, if only Ulta boxes that showed up at my house contained items like this…
Oh man, completely different. The DAVE out is almost certainly the most “correct”, having the most detail and most control. However, the sacrifice of detail and speed/control in the DNA (or any tube amp I’ve heard, for that matter) is fairly minimal, and then you get this absolutely insane holographic imaging and separation with DNA amp. The DNA sounds like you kind of stuck your head into the music and it’s all around you and VERY deep. Now, the DNA is only a demo on loan to me, and I currently own a Woo WA5, and that presentation is a little bit more in front of you versus the DNA, but still improved stage and separation vs solid state.
I do want to add, though, that the M Scaler itself meaningfully improves the separation and image depth of the music, and I miss the “tube sound” a little less when I’m plugged straight into the DAVE when the M Scaler is involved.
The chair is a little blurry in the 2nd to the last photo, can you retake that shot? Next time please move that Mickey-Mouse-Head-Darth-Vader mask thingy out of the way.
Thanks.
It’s a handsome thing. I’m looking forward to mine arriving before too long (I’m in the latest order).
It’d be great to read your impressions of the thing, especially with your ZMFs, especially especially your Eikon and Verite. I hoping to head in those directions somewhere down the line…
It’s really good with Aeolus.
I don’t have my Eikons anymore. Sadness.
You and this chair pron addiction… Seek help.
LOL

Hmm…! I see the projection going on here! Sigmund Freud actually used a couch with his patients, but I suppose the Chair of Unboxing might work too. There’s no doubt some obscure symbolism to both the chair and objects in the chair. Sometimes a chair is not just a chair.
Oh, now THAT looks neat. Pro Gear, sweet.

I’m not clicking any of those links. I have a sneaking suspicion there is a Rick Astley video on the other side.

@andris … Are you running the DAVE into the DNA for the best of both worlds?
