What in the Russian nesting doll boxes inside of boxes inside of boxes?

Decware Zen Taboo Mk 4, next to my home built Bottlehead Crack for scale.

This was a looooooong delayed blind buy lockdown-era purchase initiated a couple years ago. I waited even longer than @andris and the typical DNA amp buyer. The amp is fully balanced, has upgraded caps, analog tube life meters, crossfeed/lucid mode, and speaker output. It’s designed to handle planars too. This is where I’m going speakerwise (@chrisnyc75 and @pennstac): small open-baffle drivers.

You’ll never get big sound that way.

Congratulations! That should be quite an amp!

I knew they had a significant backlog, but I didn’t know it was THAT long.

I hope it brings you much enjoyment. It is certainly an “end game” amp (whatever the hell that means anyway…) :+1:

Nope. Wrong. These small amps are typically paired with 95 to 105 dB per watt speakers (and possibly a subwoofer). I heard several open baffle setups at CAF last year and none lacked for power. They all married to the room better than any box speaker can hope (e.g., see the theory here; another example often paired with Decware). The entire room becomes their cabinet. To my ears they come across as open-backed headphones in speaker form. They do require aggressive placement away from walls to control tone and reflections.

They included this T-shirt with my order. A lot of people waited more than a year per the combination of several excellent product reviews coupled with the lockdowns:

Aren’t you funny today!

I’m pretty aware of dipole speakers, and yes they have to be placed away from walls. I’m a fan of big Maggies and larger e-stats after all, and have heard things like Emerald Physics.

Most do need a sub - that will help a lot. Still not had the right situation to pull the trigger on a speaker upgrade for myself. You know what I’ve been looking at, Harbeth, Klipsch (wife says the big corner horns are just too big), EgglestonWorks, Vandersteen, the Martin Logan larger e-stats. The Maggie 3.7i also had the kibosh put on them.

But when I say big sound, I’m thinking of when I want to listen to classical at realistic volumes. For me, that has either meant big horns like the Klipsch or fairly powerful amplification.

I visited ~50 to ~100 rooms at CAF. Small, large, towers, subwoofers. The speakers (subwoofers) in every single room could produce realistic classical volumes, but some were indeed smallish hotel rooms. The open baffle models were the only ones to fully disappear.

See Firstwatt amps regarding power needs.

Rockville stands came in today, really impressed for what you get for $70 in terms of build quality. Doing a complete white themed overhaul in the studio, step one complete…

Hmmm, that’s a funny shaped box for Headphones.

Oh. That’s not a common brand either…

No, not a Headphone. But, something I can guarantee WILL be used with Headphones.
It’s an early Birthday present for myself.

Received my Affinity Adapters today. Pretty nice and pretty short. Have a utopia cable coming in so it’ll be nice to use it with the 800. Plus I’d rather use the lemo connectors vs 800 connectors when unplugging them from the headphone.

I’m very happy to learn that Affinity Adapters exist. I’m very sad that the headphone makers don’t standardize on one type of connector, and that we are forced to pay $100 for adapters and then get jabbed in the neck by long sticky-pointy things.

lol yeah, it’s a decent option on the 800 because the jack is about half way up the cup. Not the best solution for headphones like focal or D8kp, because of the location of the jack is lower towards the bottom.

But for d8kp you can rotate the cups where the sockets are pointing away from your shoulders
