Enjoy the music, sir. This thread and your tour reminded me of a song from childhood growing up on a Pacific island.

Now, thatās what up!..
52ā (53ā) Nordhavn sold.
76ā (wooo ā¦) and 86ā (not likely, but have to look) set to view (flights required).
Very odd now only having a sail-boat to bug-out on ā¦
Decided it doesnāt matter ā¦ Iām just going to ignore questions of the form the original version of this post addressed going forward. People asking things, and then wanting to argue with an opinion (on something they havenāt even heard/used themselves) makes me cranky ā¦ especially once I figured out what was driving them.
For the folks that actually use audio inputs, Motu is a well known step up from Focusrite interfaces, for instance. Itās an end game for many garage producers out there.
Performance of the Motu stuff is great. So is the value. I wasnāt intended to question itās worth or where it sits in the space overall. I wouldnāt have five of their units if I didnāt like them.
Some of it can be a bit āelectrically-fragileā though. If you know what youāre doing (and are reasonably disciplined in doing it) itās all good. If not, better to look elsewhere. Especially for simple home-use.
Otherwise if you donāt pay attention, or make assumptions about the output connections (that are valid on other gear) itās possible to damage the interface, or the gear connected to it in ways that more expensive (not necessarily better) gear has specific protections for.
If you have multiple āUSB de-crapifiers/re-clockersā in your chain ā¦ only the LAST one in the chain can possibly have any effect. Re(blind)test accordingly.
I laughed.
I didnāt want to say anything when I read that thread, but the first thing that came to mind was
If your āend-gameā is Beyer Dynamic or Grado anything ā¦ youāre just fucking deaf/have never heard live, un-amplified, musicā¦
Thatās a bit harsh!
(Funny but harsh )
Yes, my comment was harsh.
Mostly due to how/where and what prompted it ā¦ which you donāt get to see.
It actually has little to do with either Beyer or Grado specifically (theyāre not my thing, but each to his own ā¦ I donāt actually think that people that like them are deaf). They were just the two most commonly referenced brands in the most recent rash (they seem to come in waves) of unsolicited āYou donāt know me, but hereās my end game system, what do you think?ā messages with a link to a site I donāt read.
What is your typical listening levels, @Torq. SPL-wise?
80-85 dB typically, both when listening for pleasure as well as for when I did review-centered listening.
Though I usually spent a bit of time listening specifically at 84 dB before finalizing a review, just so there was a common specific baseline for them (and that corresponded to the level I measure headphones at).
Whats your typical listening level @Torq, blood alcohol percentage wise?
Something like this, I presumeā¦
We appreciate our doctors, even when itās not a pandemic. #celebratedoctors #detroiters
Yes, my comment was harsh.
You edited one of your all-time best critiques out of existence! It was Anthony Bourdain from Season 1. It was Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes 2020. Strong but fair words are sometimes necessary.
Whats your typical listening level @Torq, blood alcohol percentage wise?
The bulk of it would be at 0%.
Though when I do drink and listen, the music sometimes fuels the drinking, which tends to fuel the SPL level ā¦

The overall post was a response to outside (i.e. not originating from this forum) idiocy. In hindsight, it was better not to respond at all ā¦ improves the chances that said idiots continue to be, well, idiots.
Just for the ānuisance valueā (quick-and-dirty cell-phone shot) ā¦
Thatās post-studio-tear-down/pre-sailing-solid-state-consolidation. All remaining studio gear already lined up for sale/sold (inc. more Motu stuff, some SPL pieces, bunch of Focusrite REDNET gear, more RME bits, some Merging etc.).
Great shot @Torq did you line up a new vessel?
Weāre looking at two Nordhavns. One 76ā, which we have an option in on, and a speculative 86ā that weāll see on, I expect, Friday.
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing some of your beautiful photos.
